Which states grew fastest in 2024–2025?

South Carolina leads the state ranking at 1.46%, increasing from 5,490,316 to 5,570,274 residents. Idaho follows at 1.44%. The interval is exactly one July-to-July year.

All 50 states have valid positive starting populations and enter this comparison. DC appears separately in the geographic directory; its growth is not silently included as a 51st state.

How the starting population changes a growth ranking

The fastest-growing state is not necessarily the largest contributor to national numeric growth. Texas leads in residents added, while South Carolina leads in percentage growth. A state's change divided by its own starting total answers a different question from that state's contribution to the national increase.

For every state, the percentage uses the July 1, 2024 denominator from the same revised Vintage 2025 release. It does not divide by an original 2020 census count or an ACS survey estimate. This protects the comparison from an accidental change of source or observation date.
