Annual resident population totals
The initial annual collection is Census Population Estimates Program Vintage 2025. NST-EST2025-ALLDATA.csv supplies national and state/DC population and components. Its documented publication month is January 2026. co-est2025-alldata.csv supplies county-equivalent totals and components, published in March 2026. sub-est2025.csv supplies incorporated-place totals and geographic relationships, published in May 2026.
In each file, POPESTIMATE2025 identifies the July 1, 2025 resident total; earlier POPESTIMATE variables identify earlier July 1 observations within the same vintage. ESTIMATESBASE2020 identifies the revised April 1, 2020 base, not an unmodified census count. File-layout documentation is linked on the corresponding national, county and city release pages.
Official Census region totals
The same national/state source file supplies SUMLEV 020 observations for the Northeast, Midwest, South and West. The regional views list their member states, with DC in the South. All four region totals reconcile to those members for July 2020–2025. The added CSV view is identified as regions-v1 and retains source snapshot pep-2025-r1.
Census history and geography
The Historical Population Change Data (1910–2020) table supplies nation/state/DC decennial counts. Census-year definitions remain attached to this source and are not converted into July annual estimates. The table was published April 26, 2021; retrieval for this site occurred September 30, 2026.
The 2025 Gazetteer supplies official codes, land area in square meters, internal reference points and state abbreviations. These points support locator graphics and do not describe a place boundary. The state thematic map uses the Census 2025 generalized state boundary file at 1:20 million scale.
Definitions, reuse and provenance
Interpretation follows Census methodology and revision guidance. The Census public-access policy describes federal works as generally not subject to copyright in the United States. Attribution and exact source identification remain necessary for reproducible research. This site does not redistribute competitor text, assets or historical NHGIS collections.
Original downloaded files and SHA-256 checksums are retained in the release snapshot. Publication month, observation date, boundary vintage, retrieval date and site snapshot date are separate metadata fields. ACS guidance is used for explanations only; ACS characteristics, projections and state-produced estimates are not silently integrated into this annual collection.
