Population numbers with their context
US Population Data organizes official U.S. population estimates and census counts for readers who need a figure they can identify, compare and cite. A quick answer begins with a place, an exact observation date and a measurement type. Research detail follows with source variables, compatible historical observations, geographic definitions and downloads.
The publication focuses on population totals, changes and definitions. It does not turn population profiles into relocation guides. A city population is not a metropolitan population, and a county's demographic characteristic is not automatically a city statistic. Keeping those distinctions visible is part of making a useful reference.

This is an independent website, not an official U.S. Census Bureau service. Census figures are attributed to their source products; the Census Bureau does not endorse this publication.
How figures are selected
For supported annual resident population totals, the default is the Census Population Estimates Program. The initial publication uses Vintage 2025 and preserves the six July 1 observations from 2020 through 2025 together. Census counts for the nation, states and DC are available as a separate historical collection from 1910 to 2020. An estimates base is not relabeled as an original census count, and an ACS survey estimate is not substituted into an annual PEP series.
Every geography has a type-prefixed internal identifier and an official code retained as text. Current land-area calculations use a matching 2025 Gazetteer record. Consolidated-government balances, county equivalents and whole-place relationships are explained where relevant. Unsupported characteristics are described as missing rather than filled with zeroes.
Reproducible research
Visible tables, charts and exports use one frozen publication snapshot, pep-2025-r1. Basic datasets include versioned CSV layouts, original file snapshots and documentation. Future releases must preserve earlier downloads so a saved citation continues to identify the same observations.
