Initial publication boundary
The current registry contains one United States profile, 50 state profiles, one District of Columbia profile, 3,144 county and county-equivalent profiles, and 19,479 incorporated-place and balance profiles. Every profile has six annual resident population estimates dated July 1, 2020 through July 1, 2025, taken from PEP Vintage 2025. National coverage excludes Puerto Rico and other territories.
States and DC additionally have decennial census observations from 1910 through 2020. Older annual series, historical county/city census counts and historical rank series are not included in this snapshot. Unsupported years remain missing. A peak claim refers to the explicitly displayed annual coverage, not an all-time record.
Included geographic units
County equivalents include the units present in the source file, such as Louisiana parishes, Alaska boroughs and census areas, Virginia independent cities, DC, and Connecticut planning regions. Connecticut's current planning regions should not be joined to a former county history without documented relationships.
Incorporated places come from whole SUMLEV 162 records with functional status A (active general-purpose government) or B (active government partially consolidated with another government but with separate officials). Eight source-published balances with functional status F are retained as separately labeled profiles. Four SUMLEV 162 records with other functional statuses are excluded from the published profile registry. Consolidated-government balances included in the whole-place file are labeled on profiles and excluded from ordinary-place rankings. SUMLEV 157 and 071 place parts, 170 consolidated-city aggregates, and 172 places within consolidated cities are not independently ranked as additional ordinary whole places.
City-to-county relationships can be many-to-many. A whole-city figure shown on a county page may include residents in another county; it is not an additive county subdivision. Matching 2025 Gazetteer areas support density. If a matching area is missing, density and location are withheld with an explanation.
Census regions and research articles
Four additional Census region views publish the source’s annual SUMLEV 020 totals and explicit member states. They sit alongside the 22,675-profile registry and do not replace its original archived exports. Eight population analysis articles calculate original comparisons from the same source snapshot; each identifies its dates, source edition and downloadable analysis version.
Supported and unavailable modules
Births, deaths, natural change, net domestic migration, net international migration and residuals are available for national, state and county totals. The city totals release does not publish those city-level components. Age, sex, race and Hispanic-origin characteristics require separate products and are not in this totals snapshot. No missing module is displayed as a chart of zeroes.
Metro/micro profiles, census-designated places, county subdivisions, ZCTAs, tracts, urban areas, tribal statistical areas and territories require separate geographic and source validation. They are planned for later phases. Age pyramids, migration origin-destination flows, archived-vintage revision comparisons, custom county regions and an API likewise require their own reviewed releases. The launch instead supports exact totals, compatible history, basic rankings, comparisons, state maps and documented downloads.
Freshness is specific to the module: a July 2025 total does not make a demographic or migration-flow panel current. Follow release notes and inspect exact sources before citing a figure.
