What changed in the South population?
The region added 1,171,911 residents in the July 2024–2025 interval. Natural change was +222,866, calculated as 1,481,266 births minus 1,258,400 deaths. Published net domestic migration was +357,790 and net international migration was +596,005.
The source residual of -4,750 completes the change accounting: natural change plus net domestic migration plus net international migration plus residual equals +1,171,911. Domestic moves within the region cancel in its net total; the regional figure therefore differs from a sum of gross arrivals into every member state. These components do not establish why residents moved.
