What changed in the Midwest population?
The region added 244,385 residents in the July 2024–2025 interval. Natural change was +46,417, calculated as 737,743 births minus 691,326 deaths. Published net domestic migration was +16,040 and net international migration was +180,161.
The source residual of +1,767 completes the change accounting: natural change plus net domestic migration plus net international migration plus residual equals +244,385. Domestic moves within the region cancel in its net total; the regional figure therefore differs from a sum of gross arrivals into every member state. These components do not establish why residents moved.
