Coverage and structure
The collection contains 22,675 geographic profiles and 136,050 long-format annual observations. National coverage is the 50 states and DC, excluding territories. City records are whole SUMLEV 162 incorporated places with functional status A or B, plus separately labeled source balance records. Balance records are labeled and excluded from ordinary-place rankings; county/place parts are relationship data rather than additional city totals.
A long row includes geographic ID, official code, type, reference date, integer value, unit, measurement type, resident population universe, source product and variable, release ID, boundary vintage, land area, status, uncertainty, source URL, retrieval date and transformation version. A wide row stores six named July 1 population columns. JSON retains normalized registry metadata, latest source-published components where supported, and many-to-many county relationships.
Limitations and terms
This is a website transformation of public Census statistical files, not a separately endorsed Census release. Blank uncertainty means the source does not supply an ACS-style margin for this total. Missing land-area joins remain unavailable. No older annual years or demographic characteristics are interpolated into the collection. Preserve official codes as text when importing a spreadsheet.
Census federal works are generally not subject to U.S. copyright under its public-access policy. Keep source attribution and transformation notes. Original publication text and branding have separate terms.
Sources and update history
Source publication months are January 2026 for nation/states, March 2026 for counties and May 2026 for places. The initial snapshot was retrieved September 30, 2026. Check the release page for exact file URLs and hashes. Subsequent approved vintages or corrections receive new identifiers; these downloads remain unchanged.
